May Artist Feature: Erica Catherine

Introducing our May artist feature... Erica Catherine Illustration!
🦋 We love this butterfly enthusiast whose style channels vintage florals 🌼. If you haven't watched one of her drawing time-lapses, go now, she is beyond gifted. I love the way she layers her detailed graphic drawings with watercolors! And she is a girl after my own heart putting her work on fabric and beautiful products. Scroll down to see our collaboration product and learn more about this Savannah artist in our latest Q & A...
Where are you from and where did you go to school?
I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. I went to Savannah Arts for high school. I then went on to get my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration from SCAD.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Nature is my favorite inspiration! I aim to bring a touch of nature to all of my artwork. Most often you can find butterflies, florals, and foliage across the pages of my art.
What are your favorite mediums?
My favorite medium by far is graphite and watercolor. It gives that really soft, vintage feel that makes my heart so happy. The downside of working this way is that it takes a very long time to build up the layers. Meaning it can take a really long time to finish my pieces. All of the little details of my work really make the time spent at my drawing table very relaxing and so worth the time spent!
When you're not doing artsy things, what can you be found doing?
You will definitely find me gardening or working on projects around our house. I got my love of gardening from my mom and you can often find us working at each other's house to make our gardens perfect. Since my husband and I bought our first home two years ago I have put in five flower beds at our home. We have also spent the last two years taking our foreclosure fixer upper to a stunning home with our own two hands. So chances are if I'm not working on art I've got my hands dirty working in the garden or at our house!
Who are some artists that influence you?
I pull a lot of my inspiration from vintage turn of the century Illustration, especially work that showcases florals. A few of my favorite artists are William Morris, Alponse Mucha, and Maria Sibylla Merian. I pull inspiration from their soft colors and compositions to help give my work the feeling that you’ve been pulled back in time.
What new project/ series are you most excited about and why?
I am really excited about my Forest Floor Collection. I recently released it and had such a fun time drawing the little mushrooms and snails! It is really the first collection that I have offered on children’s products and they turned out so cute. There’s something just so sweet about seeing your designs printed on a onesie!
Don't miss your chance to get our collaboration product! Designed by Erica and printed at Moss & Marsh studios! Ordering ends Friday 5/21! Order yours here.
